National Art Honor Society's Afternoon Tea

You will soon be cooking and cleaning for the Holidays, so take a little time for yourself and come to the National Art Honor Society's Mad Hatter's Tea Party, Sunday Nov. 23, 2014 1:30 pm!! You will be served a variety of homemade savory and sweet treats as well as your choice of herbal, English Breakfast or Earl Grey tea. You will also go home with a handmade teacup! Come for the tea, stay for the matinee performance of Alice in Wonderland!! Tickets are $10 (play tickets sold separately). Tea cup selection in order of ticket purchase – first ticket = first choice, reserve early! No tickets sold at the door! Student Services met with your senior student last week during their English 12 class. This evening, September 11th at 7:00PM, Student Services will be presenting the same information to parents of seniors. Topics to be covered are: the Transcript Request Process, Teacher Recommendation Process, and other very important information! The meeting will be held in the MRHS auditorium.

On August 26 there will be a Fall Sportsmanship meeting. One parent/guardian of each fall athlete is expected to attend. Athletes do not need to attend. The meeting will be held at 7:00 pm in Auditorium.

Marriotts Ridge High School presents one of the American theatre's funniest and most popular comedies, Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring. A game of 'Old Maid' to die for! It's murder most funny as the homicidal Brewster sisters of Brooklyn take to relieving the loneliness of old men by inviting them in for a nice glass of homemade eld-erberry wine. It just happens to be laced with a few additives: arsenic, strychnine, and "just a pinch" of cyanide. Anything goes in this rip-roaring comedy about murder.

Written by Joseph Kesselring, a college teacher from Kansas, the play was first produced for stage in 1941 and enjoyed a lengthy Broadway run. It is perhaps best known for its subsequent Frank Capra film adaptation starring Cary Grant.

Over 65 students are working on stage and off to bring this wonderful classic to life. Performances are Thursday, November 21, Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23 at 7 PM and Sunday, November 24 at 3 PM with a Formal Tea at 1:30 sponsored by the National Art Honor Society. Tea tickets sold separately and include an original handmade teacup! Tea Tickets $10.00

The Winter Sports season will begin Friday, November 15th. The following information will be helpful for any student who plans to try out for Girls and Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Indoor Track, Cheerleading, and Allied Bowling. Allied Bowling tryouts will begin later than November 15th. That date still has not been determined.

1. Students must be academically eligible. They must have a 2.0 GPA for the first marking period. They are permitted to have one failing grade but still must have a 2.0 GPA.
2. All Students must be insured.
3. They must have the following documents on file on November 15th.

  1. Current Physical dated after 4/1/2013 A physical is needed yearly.
  2. Copy of Birth Certificate- if they have tried out before, this document is already on file.
  3. Proof of Residency- once each year. BGE bill is best.
  4. Athletic Participation- needed each sports season
  5. Concussion Testing- Once taken, this is good for 2 years.

Come out on Nov. 9th at 5:00pm to support your Varsity Girls Soccer team as they play Loch Raven in the 2A State Semi-Finals at Bel Air High School. Admission is $6.00.

Juniors and seniors seeking membership in the MRHS National Honor Society must turn in their candidate packets to Mrs. Rashid in the media center on or before Monday, September 23rd at 2:15 PM. Failure to submit a complete candidate packet prior to the deadline could result in a non-selection decision for membership.

The Senior Crab Feast will be held on Monday, September 23, from 7 to 9 pm in the cafeteria. The last day to purchase tickets is Monday during all lunch shifts. Tickets are $41.00 cash or checks are accepted.
The price includes crabs, buffet (pork barbeque, sides, beverages and dessert) and a Class of 2014 crab feast t-shirt.

SENIOR PARENT NIGHT:
Student Services will hold an informational session for parents of Seniors regarding post secondary plans, the college process, scholarships, requesting transcripts and teacher recommendations. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 11th at 7:00pm in the auditorium.

NHS: Candidate packets are available to all academically eligible juniors and seniors for pick up in the media center beginning on Tuesday, September 3rd. Current members do not need to resubmit a packet. A minimum 3.40 cumulative weighted GPA is required by HCPSS. If you do not receive a candidate packet in error please immediately contact Mrs. Rashid at lrashid@hcpss.org or Ms. Allman at ballman@hcpss.org. All candidates are invited to an optional question and answer session on Monday, September 9th in the auditorium during break. All candidate packets are due on Monday September 23rd before 2:15 PM to Mrs. Rashid in the media center without exception.

Marriotts Ridge will hold the first Freshman Fun Night on Friday, August 23rd from 7 - 9 pm. Ping pong, dancing, and basketball are just a few of the activities that are planned for our incoming freshman students. Tickets are $5 and will be available for purchase at freshman orientation on Thursday, August 22nd. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
